IYCN is starting to collaborate with IUPAC

As a group of likeminded young scientists we are truly aware of the globalization of chemistry within our societies. While many countries were represented in Boston and Sevilla, we know there is so much more of the world that needed representation. And that leads us to today, planning for the official launch of IYCN at the 46th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress in São Paulo, Brazil.

During this congress, IYCN will collaborate with local organizers, as well as societies around the world to host two major symposia that discuss issues of great importance to rising stars in chemistry: Green Chemistry practices and Intellectual Property rights. Along with this, we will organize a networking coffee session highlighting many countries in attendance to show the true breadth of the ways in which IYCN can unite early career chemists. At this congress IYCN will not only come together for the first official time with IUPAC members but we will also elect our first board that will continue to work towards our collaborative, international efforts.

IYCN presence at 6th EuCheMS Chemistry Congress

IYCN had the opportunity to gather at the 6th EuCheMS Chemistry Congress (ECC) in Sevilla (Spain). During the 6th ECC, IYCN hosted a soft launch event in collaboration with the participants of the YCCB Exchange Program previously mentioned. Due to the many countries present in Sevilla, IYCN had the opportunity to lay the groundwork that will eventually be used to build an expansive international network. Also IYCN has some representation during some receptions during ECC, like ACS resection, Wiley reception, EYCN reception.

European Younger Chemists Network 2016 Recap

IYCN was invited to the European Young Chemists Network (EYCN) delegates assembly.During this EYCN DA on the 28th and 29th of April 2016, representatives from 17 chemical societies from all over Europe where gathered in Guimarães, Portugal.

IYCN had the opportunity here to present the idea of IYCN for the first time since sending out the proposal to IUPAC. EYCN DA is a particular interesting event not only because we can present our ideas to our target demographic, but also since we had the opportunity to meet the president of EuCheMS, David Cole-Hamilton, representative from Elsevier and EYCN sponsor, Evonik.

During the DA it was very clear that the delegates showed interest in IYCN and are more than interest in how this project will develop. As to all chemical societies worldwide we promised to reach out to them as soon as the project reaches a more final stage, hopefully later this year.
